SPREYTON SOLSTICE – 7 HEAVY METAL BANDS AND A BURNING ORCHARD MAN

off the press

Experience the magic of Tasmania’s longest night at Spreyton in the North West.

The music is new. The tradition is not.

On the darkest night of the year, Spreyton Cider Co. is doing what people have done for thousands of years: gathering around a fire. Only this fire is a towering handcrafted effigy known as The Orchard Man, and the soundtrack comes from seven of the heaviest local, Tasmanian and mainland Australian heavy metal acts around.

Spreyton Solstice lands on Saturday 20 June, transforming the working apple orchard into one stage, one long night and one unforgettable burn. Gates open at 2:00 pm, with heavy metal echoing through the orchard all afternoon and into the darkness before the night reaches its climax: the ceremonial burning of The Orchard Man.

The Burn

The Orchard Man stands watch over the whole night, patient, proud, waiting. Built from the orchard and returned to it, the handcrafted effigy rises against the Tasmanian winter sky until the moment the music calls him home. When he ignites, he lights up the longest night in a way that stays with you well after the last set.

Seven Heavy Metal Bands

A powerful mix of local acts from Devonport and Burnie, fellow Tasmanians and bands from the mainland brings a full afternoon and night of crushing riffs, thunderous drums and high-energy noise, spanning classic heavy metal through to modern extreme sounds.

Featuring Besomora, Omnipresence, Hungus, Brickfist Bushrangers, Pale Scum, Pulverised Cranial Matter and Copperhead.

Fuel for the night

Drinks are on tap, and the food is built for a cold Tasmanian night. Guests can pre-order the Smokin’ Hot Meat Platter, slow-smoked meats, creamy slaw, spiced corn ribs and golden roasted spuds, served hot and made to share. It’s the right companion to award-winning cider and a sky full of fire.

“We wanted to create something that felt true to who we are and where we come from,” said Grant Langworthy of Spreyton Cider Co. “The orchard has been at the heart of our family for generations. We also care a lot about the Northwest music scene and giving artists across every genre a real stage and a local crowd to play to. At its heart, Spreyton Solstice is about getting people together around great music, delicious food and a fire on the longest night of the year. When The Orchard Man lights up against the orchard, it’ll be a moment people remember.”
