There is a certain kind of magic that happens when live blues, crackling fire pits and a room full of locals come together on a cold Friday night in Spreyton. On 24 July, Devonport Jazz brought that magic to Spreyton Cider Co.
King Cake filled the Cellar Door
King Cake took the stage and held the room from the first song. Led by acclaimed guitarist Pete Cornelius, the trio also featured Randal Muir on Hammond organ and Beau Thomas on drums. Together, they served up jump blues and New Orleans funk with a deep, easy groove. The sound was raw, warm and full of character. It was live music made for a Tasmanian winter night.
Local food, cider and fires
Outside, the fire pits crackled. Inside, guests settled in for a two-course meal made with local produce. Glasses were filled with Tasmanian cider, craft beer and local wine, all made for an easy night at our Cellar Door
The Spreyton Old Fashioned also made its first appearance. Made with our Spreyton Apple Brandy, applewood-aged spirit and bitters, it went down a treat. Judging by the response, it will not be a one-night-only drink.
A warmer winter night in Spreyton
By the time the last song finished at 9.30 pm, the middle of winter in Tasmania felt a fair bit warmer. Good music, good food and good company. It is a simple recipe, and one we reckon we will use again.
