Meet Hard Tropical Punch, Our Newest Tasmanian Drink

off the press

Say hello to Hard Tropical Punch, the newest member of the Spreyton Hard range.

It is a lightly sparkling tropical drink, bursting with pineapple, passionfruit, mango and orange. Bright, refreshing and full of flavour, with just enough bite to keep everything balanced.

It brings the feeling of a tropical holiday to every can, which is handy when you live in Tasmania and somewhere warmer can feel a very long way away.

What is Hard Tropical Punch?

It is an alcoholic tropical punch in a can, made by us here in Spreyton.

Think of the fruit punch you would find at a party, with a light sparkle and a bit of alcohol in it. It sits at 4.2% alcohol, which is 1.1 standard drinks a can, about the same as a mid strength beer.

What does Hard Tropical Punch taste like?

Sweet pineapple arrives first, followed by tangy passionfruit and rich, fleshy mango. Juicy orange brings a citrus lift and a subtle edge that stops the sweetness running away with itself.

The bubbles are light rather than sharp. The finish is clean, and the tropical fruit stays with you.

Here is what each fruit brings.

  • Pineapple. Sweet and sunny. The first thing you notice.
  • Passionfruit. Tangy and tropical, with enough tartness to keep things honest.
  • Mango. Rich and fleshy. This is the one that leads the palate.
  • Orange. Juicy citrus with a zesty lift that keeps the sweetness in check.

Fair warning. After one, you will be wanting another.

Is Hard Tropical Punch gluten free?

Yes. It is gluten free and it is also vegan. That makes it a useful thing to have in the fridge when you are having people over and you are not sure what everyone can drink.

Here are the details in one place.

  • 4.2% alcohol by volume
  • 1.1 standard drinks per 330ml can
  • Gluten free
  • Vegan
  • Contains sulphites and preservative 202
  • Cartons of 16 x 330ml cans
  • Crafted and packaged in Spreyton, North West Tasmania

A tropical drink made in Tasmania

Spreyton Cider Co. is a fifth-generation Tasmanian family business. We have been working with fruit since 1908, and our drinks are still made among the orchards of North West Tasmania.

Five generations of apple growing is not the obvious background for a tropical punch. But knowing how fruit behaves, how sweetness and acid balance each other, and when to stop adding things, matters just as much with mango as it does with apples.

Hard Tropical Punch tastes like a tropical escape. It is made in Tasmania, where the weather is tropical sometimes. Maybe. One day.

When to drink Hard Tropical Punch

Sunny afternoons. Barbecues. Long weekends. Any gathering that needs a lift.

It is also a good answer for the friend who doesn’t drink beer, doesn’t want wine, and is quietly hoping you have something more interesting in the fridge.

Serve it chilled, straight from the can. Or pour it over ice with a wedge of orange or a slice of fresh pineapple if you are feeling fancy.

Try it at the Spreyton cellar door

If you are visiting Devonport or exploring North West Tasmania, call in and try it for yourself.

The Spreyton cellar door sits beside our working orchard, a short drive from Devonport, with easy caravan and motor home parking. You can taste your way through the range, sit down to a relaxed meal at the Orchard Kitchen, and see where all of it is made.

It is an easy stop on a North West Tasmania itinerary, and an even easier one before you board the Spirit of Tasmania.

Where to buy Hard Tropical Punch

In Tasmania, look for it at your local independent bottle shop. It is stocked right across the state, so there is a good chance it is already sitting in a fridge near you. You will also find it at the Spreyton cellar door.

On the mainland, you do not need to come to Tasmania to get your hands on it. Hard Tropical Punch is available in cartons of 16 x 330ml cans for $85, with free shipping to mainland Australia.

Bring a little tropical warmth to your next gathering, even if the weather has other ideas.
