We’ve been growing apples at Spreyton since 1908, so we’ve seen a few seasons come and go. Here’s our guide to the best time to get married in Tasmania, and what each season looks like on our family orchard in North West Tasmania.
Spring: blossom season
If you want a wedding that feels fresh and full of life, spring is hard to beat. Across Tasmania, most apple trees flower around mid-October, and for a short while the orchard is covered in soft white and pink blossom.
Spring days are mild rather than hot, and the grass is at its greenest. It’s a beautiful time for photos, though blossom only lasts a few weeks, so it’s worth talking to us about timing if it’s high on your wish list.
Summer: long days and cherry season
Summer brings long evenings and the best chance of warm weather, which makes it ideal for couples who want to spend as much of the day outside as possible.
It’s also cherry season. Tasmanian cherries are picked from December to February, and cherries are one of the fruits we grow here at Spreyton.
For a big summer celebration, the Party Barn gives you plenty of room to move, with space for a seated dinner or a reception that runs well into the night. With daylight saving, summer evenings stay light until late, which means plenty of time for golden-hour photos in the orchard.
Autumn: harvest time
Autumn is harvest season in Tasmania, when apples are picked from around February to May. The trees are heavy with fruit, the light turns golden and the whole orchard feels busy and abundant.
For couples who love food and drink, it’s a lovely time to celebrate. Our kitchen builds menus around seasonal Tasmanian produce, so an autumn menu can make the most of what’s fresh right now.
Winter: cosy and intimate
Winter weddings are often overlooked, but they have a charm all of their own. The orchard is quiet and bare, the air is crisp and there’s something special about gathering somewhere warm while it’s cold outside.
The Cellar Door suits a smaller, relaxed winter wedding, with room to settle in and look out over the orchard. Winter is also quieter for weddings in general, so you may find more dates to choose from.
What about the weather?
Tasmanian weather is famous for keeping everyone guessing, whatever the season. It’s worth planning for sunshine and showers on the same day.
At Spreyton, you’ll have both indoor and outdoor areas, so your celebration can carry on happily whatever the sky decides to do.
